North Goa is not all loud beach clubs. Head up the coast beyond Vagator and the pace changes. Morjim, Ashwem and Mandrem form a long, wide run of sand where mornings are quiet, the water is calm on good days and the biggest decision is where to lay your towel.

Three Beaches, Three Moods

Morjim is the calmest of the three, with a broad, uncrowded shore and a relaxed cafe scene. It is also a turtle nesting area in season, so it rewards quiet visitors. Ashwem, a short drive north, is known for stylish beach restaurants such as La Plage. Mandrem, a little further on, is quieter still.

All three work best early and on weekdays. Sea conditions change through the season, so check flags and stay within areas where lifeguards are on duty.

Quiet beaches reward preparation. Bring your own water, snacks and a sunshade, because facilities are sparser than on the busier strips, and take your rubbish with you. Early morning walks are a highlight, with soft light, cool sand and birds along the shoreline. If you enjoy photography, this is the time to shoot. By mid-morning the sun is strong, so plan a shaded lunch or a return to the pool, and keep hydrated.

  • Morjim: wide beach, relaxed pace, family-friendly.
  • Ashwem: polished beach restaurants and sunset dinners.
  • Mandrem: the most secluded of the three.
  • Go before 10:00 AM for the calmest sand.

Staying Close to the Calm

The easiest way to enjoy them is to stay beside the sand. The Plix Resort in Morjim is a beachside resort with a pool, restaurant and garden, two minutes' walk from Morjim Beach, with Ashwem about eight minutes away by car.

Read our Morjim guide for the area at a glance, or browse all stays to compare bases. Mopa airport is about forty minutes from Morjim.

The best way to enjoy this stretch is to slow down. Spend one day at each beach, sample the local cafes and let the pace of the coast set your own. Avoid trying to fit everything in: a quiet holiday is about doing less, better. Evenings are calm too, with early dinners, starry skies and the sound of the sea, which is precisely why so many guests return year after year and bring friends.

  • Two-minute walk to Morjim Beach from our Morjim properties.
  • Ashwem is about 8 minutes by car.
  • Pack a hat, water and reef-safe sunscreen for long beach days.
  • Respect nesting areas and quiet hours from November to March.

If your idea of a beach holiday is space, sea air and silence, this stretch of coast is the one to book. Pack a good book, a wide-brimmed hat and no fixed agenda. The northern beaches reward visitors who linger, and a few unhurried days here often feel longer and more restorative than a whole week of sightseeing elsewhere on the coast.
