Five days is the sweet spot for a first North Goa trip — enough time to properly explore Anjuna, Vagator, and Morjim without the exhausting pace of trying to see all of Goa at once. Here's how we'd plan it.

Day 1: Arrival & settling in

Check into your villa, unpack, and take it slow. A pool session and an early dinner nearby is enough for day one — save the exploring for when you're properly rested. Flights into Goa often land at odd hours, so don't schedule anything demanding for the evening you arrive.

Day 2: Anjuna

Spend the morning at Anjuna Beach, then explore the village's café and boutique scene. If it's a Wednesday, time your visit around the flea market. Sunset at one of Anjuna's cliff shacks closes out the day well.

Day 3: Vagator & Chapora Fort

Walk up to Chapora Fort for the coastal views — it's a short, easy climb and one of North Goa's best photo spots. Spend the afternoon at Ozran (Little Vagator) beach, then head to the Vagator plateau for a proper cliff-top sunset.

Day 4: Morjim & Ashwem

A quieter day. Morjim's calm water is good for a long swim, and Ashwem's beach cafés are worth a slow lunch. If you're staying at Morjim Pride, this is effectively a day at home — no long drives needed.

Day 5: Assagao & departure

Before heading out, spend the morning in Assagao — its Portuguese-era lanes, boutique shops, and café scene make for a relaxed final morning. Grab lunch there before your onward journey.

Adjusting the pace for your group

This itinerary assumes a moderately active group. If you're travelling with young kids or want more downtime, compress it to four active days and use the fifth purely for pool time and packing. If you're a couple or a group wanting more nightlife, swap one quiet morning for a later start after a Vagator night out — the itinerary flexes easily either way.

A few tips for first-timers

  • Rent a scooter or hire a driver for the week — distances between beaches are short but public transport is limited.
  • Book sunset dinners in advance during peak season; the best spots fill up fast.
  • Leave at least one half-day unplanned — Goa rewards a slower pace more than a packed schedule.

If you only have 3 days instead

A shorter trip still works well with the same route, compressed: Day 1 for Anjuna, Day 2 for Vagator and Chapora Fort, Day 3 for Morjim or Assagao depending on whether you'd rather end on a beach or a village morning before departure. Cut Assagao first if time is tight — it's the most skippable stop of the five without losing the core North Goa experience, and easy to add back on a return trip.

What to skip if the weather doesn't cooperate

Even in the dry season, an unexpected overcast or rainy day can throw off outdoor plans. If that happens, swap Chapora Fort or a beach afternoon for Assagao's covered café scene, or simply treat it as a pool-and-rest day at the villa — five days gives you enough slack to absorb one off day without derailing the rest of the trip. Avoid the temptation to cram a skipped day's plans into the next one; it tends to make both days feel rushed rather than fixing anything.

Budgeting for the week

Beyond the villa itself, budget roughly for a scooter or driver, two or three sit-down meals a day (mixing casual shacks with one or two nicer dinners), and a modest allowance for activities like water sports or a Mandovi cruise if you plan to include them. North Goa is generally affordable by international standards, and a group splitting a villa tends to find the whole week costs meaningfully less per person than the same nights spent in individual hotel rooms.

Extending to a week

If you can stretch this trip to seven days rather than five, the two extra days are best spent as genuine rest — an unplanned beach day at Morjim, or simply a second pass through whichever neighbourhood you enjoyed most the first time. First-time visitors often try to add more sightseeing to fill extra days, when what actually improves the trip is more time to properly settle into the pace that made the first five days good in the first place.

Common mistakes first-timers make

The most frequent one is trying to cover too much ground each day, treating North Goa like a checklist rather than a place to slow into. A close second is underestimating drive times on narrow village roads, which move slower than distances on a map suggest. And a third is skipping the unglamorous but genuinely useful step of confirming your villa's check-in time against your flight — arriving to a locked gate after a long journey is an avoidable way to start a trip on the wrong foot.

Where to base yourself

This itinerary works best from a central base — Vagator or Anjuna put you within a short drive of everything above. browse every stay in North Goa to find a villa near the middle of this route, or check Casa Moana in Anjuna or Harbor Court in Vagator directly.
